Samsung heeft eindelijk zijn eerste opvouwbare smartphone geïntroduceerd. Met het Infinity Flex Display onthulde het Koreaanse technologiebedrijf de opvouwbare technologie achter zijn tablet-sized smartphone en zijn vouwmogelijkheden om het in een zak te laten passen.

Take a look at Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone, powered by the Infinity Flex Display. After years of anticipation, Samsung at last showcased a device that transforms from phone to tablet in an instant during #SDC18. Though their demo was brief, we learned a few important things about the device. Its 7.3-inch screen can be folded “hundreds of thousands of times” with a specially-designed version of Android accommodating for running multiple apps simultaneously across the various form factors. Samsung says mass production will begin “in the coming months,” meaning we could get a look at what this device looks like in the wild very soon! Flexible phones are officially a reality. ? This is the Royole Flexpai, a tablet-phone hybrid that’s already available in China. That puts it ahead of the foldable device Samsung is expected to announce tomorrow, and US buyers can already preorder it starting at $1,318. ??? That sounds like a lot to pay for a device whose biggest feature is that you can fold it in half, and well…it is. But it’s not a product for the average person, we’re in cutting-edge device territory. And as such, we’re still trying to figure out exactly whether flexible phones have a place. It’s cool to bend the Flexpai’s 7.8-inch AMOLED, 1440px plastic screen, and Royole promises the phone can bend along its hinge more than 200,000 times. But it’s also sitting in the shadow of Samsung’s device, which will immediately grab more attention by virtue of being from one of the world’s biggest phone companies. ???
